A lionfish removal excursion was implemented on the 18th of October 2020, in three different areas at the Akrotiri Peninsula in Limassol. The event was organised and led by the “Marine and Environmental Research (MER) Lab”. Three groups of trained divers of the project’s “Removal Action Teams (RATs)” partook at the event - each group was made up of three to four divers. The participants fully cleaned the sites they visited, especially some spots where lionfish accumulated. A total of 118 lionfish of various sizes were removed during this lionfish removal expedition. We thank the RATs for attending the event, helping control lionfish population numbers around Cyprus and for continuing to support the project and its goals.
