The “IUCN MedMIS” portal (website and application) has been completed and it is operating - http://www.iucn-medmis.org. This is a platform where users can report sightings of marine invasive species in the Mediterranean. Through the “RELIONMED-Life” project, the “Lionfish Portal” (http://www.iucn-medmis.org/?c=LionFish/show) has been integrated into “MedMIS” to monitor specifically the presence of the lionfish populations. “MedMIS” is free to use and it allows scientists to monitor the presence, abundance and distribution of the alien invasive species in the area which consequently also helps target actions being taken for controlling those species. The “IUCN MedMIS” platform is available in Greek, English, Spanish and French.
On the 15th of December 2020, the University of Cyprus published information, on behalf of the project, in the form of press releases informing the public about the “MedMIS” surveillance system. Report your lionfish sightings and help monitor their populations.
