1st Lionfish Removal Derby

Our first lionfish removal derby was conducted on the morning of 26.05.2019 at Konnos Bay (Cyclops cave to Chapel). Twelve teams composed of twenty-nine expert divers (majority dive instructors) went underwater equipped with a removal toolkit and removed 123 lionfish altogether in a single dive. This was our first test and we surpassed it. Everything progressed smoothly with no accidents/problems to report. After the lionfish removal, the participants and organisers moved to the excursion area at Cavo Greco where the lionfish were measured, and some were barbecued and eaten. We all had a first taste of what’s to follow.
