June 26, 2020The “Marine and Environmental Research (MER) Lab” conducted several exploration surveys in the “MPA” of Cape Greco. The purpose was to identify potential lionfish hotspots that will be targeted for removals. A few rocky areas were detected in the Buffer Zone that were completely infested with lionfish. Large aggregations of lionfish were also spotted in the “No Take Zone” in mixed habitats including, seagrass and Rocky seafloor. In some cases, a few juvenile lionfish were spotted within Posidonia oceanica meadows. Lionfish were fully active late afternoon.
