Marine invasive species’ management in “Med-MPAs”

May 6, 2018On the 4th of May 2018, “Marine and Environmental Research (MER) Lab” organised an exploration survey alongside with the “University of Plymouth” in Limassol, with the aim to remove any potential lionfish observed. The first attempt took place at the “Pharses II Shipwreck”, which is located close to the Limassol Port, at an approximate depth of 21 m. In this case, no lionfish were detected at the site. The second survey was carried out at the artificial reefs of the Marine Protected Area of Amathounta, at 17 m depth. Only 4 lionfish were found and removed by the researchers.
