Removing Lionfish from the “Cyclops’ cave” site

December 7, 2019Dr. Niki Chartosia (UCY), on the 3rd of December 2019, was at the “Department of Biology” of the “National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA)” where she gave a lecture on the project and the “IUCN-MEDMIS” application.
Other scientists (from the “Hellenic Centre of Marine Research” – Dr. Paraskevi Karachle, Dr. E. Papathanassiou; from the “Aristotle University of Thessaloniki” – Dr. Athanasios Tsikliras, from the “NKUA”, Dr. Persefoni Megalofonou, Dr. Dionysios Raitsos, Dr. Panayiotis Pafilis) partook in the event as well. More than 50 students of the “Department of Biology” of the “NKUA” attended the lectures and, at the end, a round table was organised with a discussion regarding the lionfish invasion, management and other related topics.
Knowledge was shared and interesting questions – comments were communicated. Both, students and scientists, were engaged to use the portal and application of “MEDMIS” for keeping records of lionfish sightings.
