53rd European Marine Biology Symposium, in Belgium
September 21, 2018Second Round Regional Workshops, United Nations, Odessa, Ukraine
October 19, 2018Dr. Spyros Sfenthourakis presented the “RELIONMED” project at the 9th Panhellenic Ecology Symposium (HELECOS 9) that was held in Heraklion, Crete (Greece). The symposium took place from the 4th until the 7th of October 2018. Results on the “FEEDING HABITS OF THE INVASIVE LIONFISH PTEROIS MILES (PISCES: SCORPAENIDAE) ΙΝ CYPRUS” were presented. After having performed stomach content analysis on more than 80 lionfish that were caught from different depths during 2017-2018, results showed that lionfish that have invaded the Cyprus waters prefer to consume teleost species (mostly native ones) and sometimes crustaceans (mainly Decapoda). Its preference for native species implies significant impacts on local communities.
