November 28, 2021Upcoming Lionfish Workshop: The Final Event of the RELIONMED-Life project
January 26, 2022The “2020 Forum of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the Mediterranean” was held in Monaco between the 28th of November 2021 until the 1st of December 2021. The University of Plymouth participated in the hybrid
event presenting, amongst others, the RELIONMED-Life project. The intention of the organisers (MedPAN, SPA/RAC, WWF, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, and partners) was to profile the Post-2020 Roadmap and the future of the Mediterranean MPAs. Under the section “Mainstreaming climate change adaptation into Mediterranean MPAs”, the project’s partner talked about case studies from Cyprus, amongst which was the RELIONMED-Life project, revealing the growing threat from the invasive species in such areas, as well as management techniques that could be activated to control the species. In addition, it was highlighted that targeted removals of invasive species in the MPAs are essential.
